Veterans Therapy and Support That Respects Your Experience

Service changes a person. Coming home doesn't always mean leaving it behind. Whether you're navigating life after deployment, processing experiences that have stayed with you, or supporting a veteran you love, finding the right veteran mental health services shouldn't be another battle. If you've been searching for veteran counseling near you, you're in the right place.

Common Veteran Therapy Questions (FAQ)

  • The most important thing you can do is listen without pressure and encourage professional support without ultimatums. Many veterans resist help because of stigma or a belief that they should handle things alone.

Letting them know that seeking veteran support is a sign of strength, not weakness, can make a real difference. Connecting them with a provider who has specific experience with veterans mental health is the most effective next step. The VA's caregiver support program offers guidance for family members here.

  • Yes. The VA offers a range of veteran mental health services including therapy, medication management, and crisis support. If you are eligible, contacting the VA first and requesting a referral is a good starting point. At our clinic, we work alongside VA care and welcome veterans who are seeking additional or alternative veteran counseling outside of the VA system. We accept TriWest, which covers many VA Community Care referrals. Learn more about VA mental health services here.

  • The VA offers evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and medication-assisted treatment for PTSD and depression. At our clinic, we also offer Cognitive Processing Therapy as a primary approach for veterans mental health services, along with individualized therapy tailored to each veteran's history and goals. Our focus is on providing a private, community-based option for veterans who prefer care outside of a VA facility.

  • Veterans experience mental health challenges at higher rates than the general population. The most common include Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, traumatic brain injury (TBI), substance use disorders, and military sexual trauma (MST). Many veterans also experience significant difficulty adjusting to civilian life, including changes in identity, relationships, and purpose. Recognizing these challenges is the first step toward getting the right veteran help. The National Center for PTSD is a trusted resource for veterans and families.

Veterans Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy

For Veterans: What to Expect

Living with the weight of military service doesn't have to be permanent. Veteran mental health services near you should feel accessible, private, and built around your experience, not a generic checklist.

Veterans Therapy Individual veteran counseling at our clinic is tailored to the unique experiences of military service members and their families. Sessions address PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship stress, and the challenges of transitioning to civilian life. This is a space where veterans are met with respect, not pity, and where the goal is a life that feels livable again.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) CPT is one of the most researched and VA-recommended treatments for PTSD in veterans. It works by helping veterans identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts connected to their trauma, such as self-blame, shame, or a persistent sense of threat. Sessions are structured and skills-based, with a clear path forward. Many veterans experience meaningful symptom relief within 12 sessions. Learn more about CPT at the VA's PTSD resources page.

Session Format: Schedule individual appointments 1 to 3 times per week in person or online. Sessions work best when attended for at least 10 to 12 weeks.
