Christmas Cheer: Have We Forgotten What It Is?
I was out shopping in the hustle and bustle of Christmas traffic. Cars everywhere, people rushing, horns honking, and stress written on so many faces. In the middle of all that noise and pressure, it struck me how easy it is during this season to forget what Christmas is truly about.
Meanwhile my husband was home and visited by two young girls who brought something unexpected and beautiful. They stopped by simply to tell him how much they loved our Christmas decorations. Their joy was pure and contagious. One of them smiled and said, “We just want to spread Christmas cheer.”
When he told me about it, that simple moment stopped me in my tracks.
It got me thinking… have we forgotten what cheer really is? Especially Christmas cheer.
Cheer isn’t about packed schedules, perfect gifts, or checking off a long to-do list. Cheer is the act of being happy, excited, joyful, and blessed. It’s about kindness, presence, and choosing joy, even when life feels busy or overwhelming.
Those two young girls reminded me that cheer can be simple. It doesn’t cost a thing. It just takes intention.
So how do we become those things I just described? Happy, excited, joyful, and blessed.
The Bible reminds us that Jesus is the reason for the season. When we choose to believe, we’re reminded of the joy, peace, and hope that Jesus brings into our lives. Not just at Christmas, but in every season.
Joy doesn’t mean life is perfect. It means our hearts are anchored in faith rather than circumstances. It means choosing light, grace, and love even in the middle of traffic, long lines, and busy days.
This holiday season and in every season I wish you true joy.
And if this message resonates with you and you’re struggling to find your joy, please know you’re not alone. If you’d like support along your journey, feel free to schedule an appointment. I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
May we all slow down, remember the reason for the season, and choose to spread Christmas cheer.
